E3 – Exemplify an understanding of professional responsibilities and policies.

Teacher-candidates demonstrate knowledge of professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities and policies.

Teachers are technically government employees and they are in responsible for a class of young children; this makes knowledge of responsibilities so very important for teacher-candidates.  Teachers are held to rightfully high standards and in order for us to meet these standards; we have to be exposed to the expectations that will be upon us during our internship year and our teaching careers.

To demonstrate my increasing competency in this area I have attached a copy of the schedule from the three staff supplementary meetings that I attended during my September experience in my student teaching classroom. During these meetings we went over yearlong plans, teacher evaluations and safety procedure throughout the school year.

Supplemental Days Staff Agenda

This piece of evidence demonstrates my competence in this area because it shows the information that I was exposed to in order for me to learn more about my responsibility as a part of the staff my placement school. These same rules and procedures will probably be similar to the procedures and expectations that I will see in my future career.

After sitting in on all three of these meetings I got to know much more about what it is actually like to be a teacher. So much more goes in to teaching then just what teachers do in the classrooms. I got to see the high expectations that all of the teachers at my placement school are under and that I should hold those same expectations of myself since I will be a presence in the school all year. I now know about policies for bullying, assessments, bus and pickup safety, and how we should be teaching if we want to be proficient educators.

This can affect student learning because after this experience I am much more competent in my responsibilities as an educator. All of the expectations set for teachers are set with student’s best interest in mind. If an educator is not aware of their professional, legal, and ethical expectations then they will not be doing their best for their student’s.

Throughout the rest of this year and more than likely the rest of my career, I will continue to grow as a person and an educator. This includes growth in how to act in a professionally responsible manner. A person can hear the expectations but until they are faced with a situation they do not know all that certain situations entail. After I have spent time as a teacher intern this year I know that I will be a person with knowledge of how to act as a professional educator.
